Golf Tournament Planning

Golf tournament planning can be a daunting task if you have not done it before. There are many factors to consider and these factors will vary depending on the goals of your tournament. For example, are you hosting a charity event, a corporate event with clients or both? Although we simply cannot cover everything in one article, here is some information that will definitely be helpful to you and will help you plan a great event!

Golf Tournament Calendar or Timeline – Yes this is as it seems. You can do this even before you pick the facility or the date and add these items to the calendar. This will help keep you organized and meet deadlines as the closer we get the more hectic everything around the tournament will become.

Golf Tournament Committee Planning – Whether you need to create committees or not will depend on the size of your tournament and the goals that you have for the event. Many charity events, especially large ones, will create multiple committees. They do this not only to spread out the work load but to also spread out the networking to raise more money for their cause. You should also come up with a list of duties and/or responsibilities for the committees so communication and expectations are clear.

Golf Tournament Budget Planning – No matter what type of event you are running this is one of the things that you will want to do early and re-visit often is a budget for the event. Common items on the budget include but are not limited to: Green fees, cart fees, food and beverage (before, during and/or after) hole sponsor signs, tee gifts, tournament prizes and marketing of the event.

Golf Tournament Gift – No matter if you are preparing for a charity or corporate event, players will be expecting to receive a golf tournament gifts also known as a tee gifts or a tee favors. You will need to insert this cost into your budget. The level and cost of your tee gift should resemble to type of tournament in which they are participating. A quick example would be if the tournament has a high entry fee, the players will expect more than a sleeve of lower end golf balls. Keep in mind that the ordering of tournament shirts, tournament hats and the like take planning and time to order…but you will have that on your calendar! Also you will want to keep in mind how you will want to distribute the tournament gifts.

Golf Tournament Marketing – How much of this you do will completely depend on the type of tournament that you are operating. Obviously if you are holding a corporate tournament to thank customers, then no “real” marketing will be involved. However if you are hosting a charity event then you will want to look at many options including traditional methods of newspaper ads, radio spots and posting flyers in the area. Many tournaments now are taking advantage of social media and attracting players through FaceBook, Twitter and others.

3 Putting Drills To Improve Your Putting

I want to improve my putting. I want some putting drills to help me improve my short putts as well as my lag putts. My trouble is a get bored fairly easy on the putting green so any putting drills that can be incorporated into games with my buddies would be great. Here are some of the best putting drills that we often use to help our students improve their putting:

Lag Drill
When it comes to putting for distance, we all tend to miss longer putts more short and long as opposed to right and left. This is one of my favorite putting drills. Place a tee anywhere where the putting green and fringe meet. Begin by hitting putts from varying distances from 10 to 50 feet towards the tee. The goal is to stop your golf ball as close to the fringe as possible. Challenge a friend or challenge yourself by continuing the putting drill until you can stop so many balls in side of a certain distance. This will be determined by your current skill level.

Pull Back Drill
The pull back drill is one of the g…

Member Question - How To Control Putting Speed

Member Question: I have a hard time with hitting two putts in a row the same speed. Even on the practice green, my putting speed is horrible. I can try to hit a ball about 15 feet and try to hit a second ball to barely touch it. The second ball rarely comes close to being close to the first ball. Sometimes it is long and sometimes it is short. The result is just not consistent. Any putting tips to help me with my putting speed?

Thank you for your question. When students are that inconsistent with speed of putts or distance control, it is typically because they are not hitting the putts solid.

Now, what does that mean in English? In hitting any shot solid it means that you hit the club-face in the same spot on every stroke. If you need to know how to find the sweet spot on your putter, it is easy to do. Simply let take your putter by the grip and let it dangle using only your forefinger and thumb. Next take a golf ball and start tapping the putter face. Once the club head goes straigh…
