Beginner Golf Tips

We are asked all of the time by those wanting to learn how to play golf..."How do I get started and what clubs should I buy?" Here we will discuss some beginner golf tips that will help you to get started playing this great game. Many people believe that the game is too expensive to play and is mostly played at a private club. Actually, 8 out of 10 rounds are played on a public golf course! Here is how you can get involved:
  • Beginner Golf Clubs – Many of those who are just thinking about taking up the game do not want to invest in something that they are not sure if they are even going to like to do. I get it as I have done the same thing. Many beginners think that you need to go out and buy an expensive set of clubs to start playing the game. This is simply not true! If you are on the fence about whether you would like to play or not, the first thing that I would do is contact the course that you want to go to and see if they have any demo clubs that you can try. Most clubs will allow you to take them to the range and practice. After going to the practice facility a few times, you will get a feel for whether you like it or not. This will probably only cost you the range balls that you hit! Not Expensive! In addition, the majority of the manufacturers sell clubs by the club these days. So when you are ready to purchase, you do not have to buy them all at once and your set can grow with your skill level.
  • Find a putter – Even though you are a beginner, you will be attracted to some putters over others. You will want to find one that you like to look at and the bottom sits flat on the ground. In addition, you will want it to be pointing where you are looking (meaning it does not feel like it points to the right or left).
  • Rules and the Regulations – Once you are ready to try to go to the golf course, you will need to learn some of the simple rules. DO NOT get bogged down in them. The Rules of Golf are very complicated. You will need to learn proper etiquette and a couple of the major rules. Your local PGA Professional should be happy to help you with any questions that you may have. If you really want to get into the rules, the USGA.org website has the rule book posted online as well as quizzes for you to test your knowledge. Keep in mind though, unless you are playing in a tournament, the rules are what you make them! Make it fun!

3 Putting Drills To Improve Your Putting

I want to improve my putting. I want some putting drills to help me improve my short putts as well as my lag putts. My trouble is a get bored fairly easy on the putting green so any putting drills that can be incorporated into games with my buddies would be great. Here are some of the best putting drills that we often use to help our students improve their putting:

Lag Drill
When it comes to putting for distance, we all tend to miss longer putts more short and long as opposed to right and left. This is one of my favorite putting drills. Place a tee anywhere where the putting green and fringe meet. Begin by hitting putts from varying distances from 10 to 50 feet towards the tee. The goal is to stop your golf ball as close to the fringe as possible. Challenge a friend or challenge yourself by continuing the putting drill until you can stop so many balls in side of a certain distance. This will be determined by your current skill level.

Pull Back Drill
The pull back drill is one of the g…

Can You Benefit From iPhone Golf Lessons?

Wireless Golf Coach is often asked if iPhone golf lessons are good to take. Of course, that is a loaded question for us. As with any type of instruction, you will need to find a qualified golf instructor. Once you feel that you are getting good information from one source you should be off to the races. Unfortunately, many players try to use every quick tip or instruction that they hear. Guess what…it is not all good for you! You need to have personalized online golf lessons in order to make it work.

Who is an iPhone golf lesson good for?
The great part about learning golf on your iPhone is that it is on your terms. You can read articles, watch videos or watch a golf webinar. The format of the webinar will change from instructor to instructor. However, most of the time you can be as anonymous as you want to be. Many times you will be typing your question and the instructor will read and answer it on camera. If you are a social butterfly, you will be able to meet other golfers and sta…

Member Question - How To Control Putting Speed

Member Question: I have a hard time with hitting two putts in a row the same speed. Even on the practice green, my putting speed is horrible. I can try to hit a ball about 15 feet and try to hit a second ball to barely touch it. The second ball rarely comes close to being close to the first ball. Sometimes it is long and sometimes it is short. The result is just not consistent. Any putting tips to help me with my putting speed?

Thank you for your question. When students are that inconsistent with speed of putts or distance control, it is typically because they are not hitting the putts solid.

Now, what does that mean in English? In hitting any shot solid it means that you hit the club-face in the same spot on every stroke. If you need to know how to find the sweet spot on your putter, it is easy to do. Simply let take your putter by the grip and let it dangle using only your forefinger and thumb. Next take a golf ball and start tapping the putter face. Once the club head goes straigh…

Beginner Golf Lessons - What Are My Options?

What are my options to learn the game of golf by taking beginner golf lessons? I need to learn how to play for my job. I have been very athletic in my past but have no idea how to hit a golf ball. I would like to know the different avenues that I could take to learn the game.

Having played other sports will help you learn the game. Here are different avenues that you can take listed in what will more than likely be the quickest way to learn for you:

Private Golf Lessons
Depending on your financial situation, you may want to take private beginners golf lessons. Typically, you can take just one or you can take a series. There is usually a price break for the series. In addition, there is only so much information that you will retain from one thirty minute or one hour golf lesson. Again, you will want to do your homework and find a qualified golf instructor and that they are priced reasonably for their qualifications.

A great cost-effective way to learn how to play go…

Ladies Golf Lessons

No matter whether you are a beginner or have been playing the game for years, there is a variety of ladies golf lessons that will help you understand the game, get to meet and socialize with others and have more fun while you play! Here is a short list of various formats that you may like to take ladies golf instruction:

Private Ladies Golf Lesson – This is what most people think of when they think of a golf lesson. Yes you have the professional to yourself but many can see that as an intimidating situation and one on one time with a qualified golf instructor is not always cheap.

Ladies Golf Classes – This is a popular way to take instruction especially for the beginners looking to learn the basics or fundamentals. As a student, you will want the instructor to student ratio to be at or below 6 to 1. Any more than that and the instructor will have a difficult time giving you any individual time at all. Again, this will go back to your goals and what you are looking to learn from the clas…
